Ingredients

Base

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 cup water

Topping

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup flour
  • 3 eggs

Instructions

Mix the 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup butter, and 2 tablespoons of water as for pie crust. Pat into 2 strips 3" x 9" long on a cookie sheet.

In a medium saucepan, combine the 1 cup water and 1/2 cup butter and bring to boil. Add almond extract. Add 1 cup of flour all at once and cook and stir for 1 minute. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Spread on top of bottom layer. Bake for 1 hour at 350°. When cool frost with following recipe:

Frosting

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 pound powdered sugar

Beat together with a small amount of hot water. Spread on cooled Danish Puff. Top with sliced almonds or walnuts.
