Oatmeal Caramelettes

Ingredients

  • 32 light caramels, unwrapped
  • 5 tablespoons cream or milk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

Melt the caramels and cream in a double boiler (or microwave). Cool slightly. Combine remaining ingredients except chocolate and nuts. Remove half from bottom of 11" x 7" pan. Bake 10 minutes at 325°-350°. Spread caramel over and sprinkle with chocolate chips and nuts. Spread caramel mixture over and rest of oatmeal mix over it. Bake 15-20 minutes.

Chill and cut into bars.
