Peach Kuchen

Use fresh or canned peaches. Sliced peaches work just as well as peach halves. I have never been able to get 12 peach halves into an 8" x 8" pan!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 12 peach halves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 cup heavy or sour cream

Instructions

Start oven at 400°.

Sift flour, baking powder, salt, and 2 tablespoons sugar together. Work in butter until mixture looks like corn meal. Pile in 8" ungreased square baking pan and pat an even layer over the bottom and halfway up the sides of the pan. Place the peach halves over the pastry. Mix the cinnamon and remaining sugar and sprinkle over the peaches. Bake for 15 minutes. Now mix the egg yolks and cream together. Pour over the kuchen and bake 30 minutes longer and serve warm with cream or ice cream.
